SUMMER TUBING.....FOR DOGS OR NOT FOR DOGS.....THAT IS THE QUESTION!!!!

OK...so I need to explain.  As we all know Travelin' Jack LUV's Red River...snazzy ski resort, great town, fab dog lodging options...dogcetera.  But here's a new twist on the fab winter skiing at Red River Ski Area.....it's called SUMMER TUBING.

And here is the deal... I got a phone call on the PuP Line the other day.  It was none other than my FAV ski bunny, Lauren from Red River Ski Area.  Seems they have added this RAD new Summer Tubing Hill for the kids and the big sized people too!  And it also seems that they are getting requests for DOGS to ride the run!  So, being the very in-the-know place, they called on the #1 Canine Adventurer...and that of course would be MOI-Travelin' Jack!  Here's how the call went:

"Ruff-LO?"
"Hey Travelin' Jack....Red River Ski Area here.  We've got a pup-prosition for you.  We need to test out our new super-dooper Summer Tubing Hill...and we need to do a PUP-TEST run---Are you up for it?"
"WHHAAAAAA???? Tubing down the side of a mountain? That may be the most dog-riculous idea I've ever heard!  So SURE...doggone it...Travelin' Jack is ON THE JOB!"

So off we went to Red River New Mexico...to check out this dog-fangled great new adventure sport.

Once I got a dog's-eye view of the Tubing Hill and Track I took a pup-sized GULP and said...."Let's Ride This BABY!"

So we grabbed a Tube, climbed on board the conveyer lift....notice I kept my paws firmly planted on the REGULAR walk-way...no moving belts for me thank you very much!  And Then we DID IT.  We launched!
I took a cozy seat atop Lauren...my personal tubing pilot...and thought HMMM this is a piece of cake!
Pretty cool view from this angle!
And then we hit the big dipper...WOAH NELLIE!
                                                 WOAH WHAT"S HAPPENIN?
                                              HANG ON FOR DAWG LIFE!
EEEEHHHH.....this thing is flyin' down the race course!
AAAH-OH-Gravity is kickin' in.......we're SPINNING!

 LET ME OUTTA HERE.....PULEESE?!?!
                                                        AAAARRRGGGHHH!
                                             ARE WE GONNA MAKE IT???????
WHEW.....we DID make it down alive Thank-Dogness!!!!
So what's the final concensus you ask? Well here it is....straight from the dog's mouth!

PAWS UP FOR PEOPLE!
PAWS DOWN FOR PUPS!
Here's my recommendation to all my 4-footed furry cousins out there---leave the slippin' and slidin' and twirlin' and bumpin' on the summer tubing hill to the 2-footed folks.  BE A SMART PUP and cool your paws on the sideline in the cool green grass of Red River!

WoW....I'm in Green Chile Cheeseburger Heaven!

OKay already......it's dinner time and this here pooch is ready for some tasty chow...so where better to start than New Mexico's favorite treat...the Green Chile Cheeseburger!

I know, you are thinkin' this is not dog fare...but after all I AM New Mexico's dog-reporter and that does include dining reviews too!  So, since the New Mexico Tourism Department JUST named the 2011 Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail winners....thought I'd do some sniffin' around!  And wouldn'tcha know it...CHAMA even has a winner!  The Elkhorn Cafe was NAMED on the New Mexico Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail....

....and here's the 2nd part of this WoW review.  The Elkhorn Cafe has this nifty patio...so VOILA!  Another Pet-io dining spot for this roving bulldog (and other dogs too!)  So off we went to check out the Elkhorn Cafe's Green Chile Chesseburger.....and did I say WoW!?!

Well let me change that to Dog-Double WoW!  and a real heapin' supply of YUMs too! Now this looks just too yummy to sit and look at....so  please excuse me as I chow down!

The Elkhorn Cafe in Chama.....  NOW that's what I call a dog-tasteful decision by the judges!

Travelin' Jack and his newly adopted feline brother, Oscar. Jack was at the Albuquerque City Shelter to donate his book and Travelin' Jack Gift pack to the Mayor's Dog Ball...when we encountered Oscar. We found out that Oscar was on the Euthanasia list because he had been diagnosed with Feline Leukemia and couldn't be with other cats. Since this is not contagious to dogs, Travelin' Jack adopted him!

Pets with special needs have a tough time finding a home so when we heard that Oscar who was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia found a great family to love him we couldn't help but name the happy siblings this week's Cuddle Champions!

Congratulations Oscar and Travelin' Jack! To read about their adventures, visit Travelin' Jack's dog-blog

To submit a picture to "WEEKLY CUDDLE CHAMPION" post your pet's picture on the Petside Facebook fan page wall with the caption "I think my pet is the CUDDLE CHAMPION"! Make sure to tell us your pet's name and a little bit about them!

CHOO-CHOO Chama Days

Well, it was Memorial Day and the Grand Re-Opening of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR....so I gathered my dog-ficial fotographer, LuAnne Jackson and off we went on a major photo shoot of all the happening things in Chama!  So here goes!  For starters.....it's Opening Day...so off we went to the historic Chama Depot to catch the action along with a few star-gazing moments!

Here we were waitin' for all the big time happenings.  From speeches to dances by Native American Jicarilla Apaches and Santa Claran drummers and dancers....to whistle blowing from the old steam engine...quite the happening place.  I made sure to get a front row seat for the ceremonies...and of course dressed in my New Mexico patriotic tie to come stylin'!

And then WHOO-WHEE DOGGIES! Who did I see, but the FAB Governor of New Mexico herself...Governor Susana Martinez...and the First Gentleman too!  Had to catch a pic with her.....and yup grand gal that she is....she took time for this pup to pose with me.....I was doggone proud, let me tell you!  She was in the middle of everything...from Native Dances to speeches to Photo ops with the crowd...and then off they went on a fabulous Train ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR.

So after the train took off, I decided to check out the local village scene in historic Chama.  They have this big red clock...with a nice park to picnic in, watch the action at the depot from above dog-cetera.  Next stop....SHOPPING.

Now here's the dog-tip of the day....You pups out ther..that's right I'm barkin' at YOU!....you can go shopping right inside Mountainview Mall in Chama!  How do you know for sure? Well, there is a nice big water bowl filled with cool fresh water right out front...just a sayin' COME ON IN and browse a bit!  At least that's what is said to me!  And here's a Tip from Jill....for all you 2 legged shoppers check out Ted's famous fudge.  Tell him Travelin' Jack and Jill said to give you  a FREE sample!  SWEEEET deal eh?  Here I am doin' my Chamber of Commerce greeting thing...gotta check in with the visitors you know...make sure they are enjoyin' themselves in Chama.....verrrryyyyy  dog-portant!

OK shoppin is done.....how's this for a lazy dazy dog dandy afternoon in a field of flowers!  AHHHHH...now THIS is the life.

And here's the grand finale!  Wouldntcha know it....I got invited out for an afternoon sailboat ride with my new buddy Roswell....he's the cute little guy with the perky ears!  Let me warn ya though....if you are around Roswell be ready for LOTS o' kisses!  He does like to smooch!  And I thought I was the king smoocher but he's got me beat by a smooch or two.  And then there's my other buddy, Eric....He looks pretty handy on the sailboat deck....think he knows a thing or two about this sailing gig!  What a treat eh?  Am I one lucky dog or what?

The day is done...and I'm dun tuckered out....but before I doze out on you...here's my final bark for the day.....make sure to check out all  the good times to be had in Chama....it's one dog-dandy pet-friendly place!  And it's nice and cool up there in the mountains too!
